OTU #18 - We Get Professional Help!, Exam Stress, Challenges of Going Home, Recharging Your Batteries

Episode #18 is a special extra episode! I wanted to get this out sooner than normal since it deals with exam stresses and the challenge of going home for the holidays. Although the University of Tulsa is finished with exams for this semester, I'm sure there are still campuses out there dealing with these issues.

This is our first episode dedicated soley to campus health issues. Dr. Cristofi, from the university's Psychological Services Department, gives advice about exam stress, good study habits, the challenges of going home for the holidays and the importance of recharging your batteries for the next semester.

Dr. Cristofi will be back on future episodes to discuss other campus health issues. If you would like to suggest a topic, please email them to me at ontheu [at] You can also leave comments on our blog at

OTU #17 - Finals Are Over!, Squirrel Wars, Christmas Plans, and a Trivia Daily Double!

Katherine, Patrick and Steve wrap up the first semester of "On the U." We discuss the end of final exams and the beginning of the Christmas Break. Thoughts turn to going home and our plans for Christmas and New Years.

Here's a silly little piece of video about the "squirrel war" in the Newman Center's front parking lot yesterday. Maybe it's mating season, but the squirrels were really wound up!

We've got a great rendition of a classic Advent/Christmas song, "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" by David Guion. Here's a link to this and more of his music from the Podshow Podsafe Music Network at

Back massages - a great way to prepare for exams!

We've reached the end of the Fall Semester and the students are starting to take final exams! Everyone is getting pretty stressed out. We visit "Sub-n-Rubs", a campus event that helps students preparing for their exams.

Brian and Steve discuss some common sense advice about preparing for exams, both body and mind, strategies for answering different types of questions, and how to deal with test anxiety. Much of this information comes from the University of Illinois Counseling Center website, which can be found by clicking here.
